Advanced Asset Tracking with RFID Systems

ScanSource POS and Barcode offers the latest in automated data collection technology - radio-frequency identification (RFID), including cards, scanners, readers / writers, printers, tags and software. RFID technology enables two-way data transmission for real-time asset and inventory management. RFID technology is frequently implemented for:

  • Healthcare inventory management
  • Asset tracking
  • Identification processes
  • Fast-pass card payment systems

We can help you implement RFID technology, so you have the information you need to determine if RFID is the right solution for your customers. RFID technology reduces data tracking errors and provides a high return on investment. Manufacturing, retailing, warehousing and many other verticals have recognized the benefits of implementing RFID systems for inventory tracking.

RFID data management advantages:

  • RFID tags may be placed inside an object and thus are not subject to wear like traditional surface-placed barcodes.
  • RFID technology enables two-way data transfer. Tags may be written to and added to over time to track items and packages. Tags may also be read to obtain data.
  • Faster read time versus barcode scanners.
  • Multiple RFID tags may be read at once for increased efficiency.

At ScanSource POS and Barcode, we specialize in offering the “right” products. Because it is a new and changing technology, our RFID inventory is limited to only products that are approved by our in-house experts. We have an entire technical support and sales team designated to educate resellers on our point-of-sale products, including RFID readers.

How RFID Works

Radio-frequency identification works by generating a radio signal, also known as an ‘interrogation’ signal, sent to an RFID tag or chip. The tag sends a reply signal that is decoded by the RFID reader.

There are two types of RFID tags, passive and active. Passive RFID tags have no power source and operate at shorter distances than active tags. Active RFID tags, powered by a battery, are capable of sending data over distances of 100 meters or more.
